Anthropic to restore Claude Fable 5 access Wednesday

Anthropic stated on June 30 that the Department of Commerce has lifted export controls on its two most powerful Claude models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5. The company said it will begin restoring access to Fable 5 on Wednesday while Mythos 5 stays limited to select companies.

In a post on X, Anthropic stated it received notice from the Department of Commerce that export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 have been lifted. The company will begin restoring access to Fable 5 tomorrow and plans to share an update soon.

Mythos 5 will remain exclusive to select companies rather than receiving the same broad restoration.

Company thanks users and partners for support. Anthropic expressed gratitude to its users for their patience during the restrictions. The firm also thanked everyone who worked with it on redeploying the models.

Questions remain on full availability of Fable 5. It remains unclear whether Fable 5 will roll out to everyone, including users outside the United States. References to KYC recently spotted on Anthropic's website have raised concerns that models like Fable could initially be restricted to those in the United States.

The development follows prior US government requests for Anthropic to limit foreign national access to Fable and Mythos. Earlier coverage indicated Anthropic had rolled out Claude Fable 5 for a limited time and released Sonnet 5 with near-Opus 4.8 performance at a lower price.
