Apple Launches AirPods 5 With Active Noise Cancellation Starting at $129

Apple today unveiled the fifth-generation AirPods, marking the first time its entry-level wireless earbuds include Active Noise Cancellation. The new model carries a starting price of $129.

AirPods 5 deliver 50 percent more noise reduction than AirPods 4. According to Apple, the earbuds remove up to 50% more external noise than AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. A redesigned acoustic architecture paired with an updated Adaptive EQ is said to produce richer and more detailed sound.

An enhanced Transparency mode reportedly makes surrounding voices and ambient sounds appear more natural. Both variants come equipped with Adaptive Audio that automatically mixes noise cancellation and Transparency mode, along with Conversation Awareness that reduces audio volume once the user begins talking. Live Translation is also supported when paired with a compatible iPhone running Apple Intelligence.

Pricing and battery life vary between the two versions. The standard edition is priced at $129, while the $149 option includes a Wireless Charging Case that adds swipe-based volume controls on the stems and extended battery runtime. Apple claims this higher-tier model provides up to five hours of listening time with noise cancellation turned on, or approximately 22 hours when paired with the case. The charging case works with Apple Watch chargers, Qi pads, and USB-C.

Preorders open immediately with availability on September 18. AirPods 5 can be preordered starting today and will become available on Friday, September 18.
