Regulators still need to sign off on the consumer launch. Apple received preliminary approval in July and has since held more talks with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology about clearance for a consumer debut, according to Bloomberg. Apple has not announced a date.

Local AI models are reportedly cleared. The ministry has approved Alibaba's Qwen models and its Tongyi Wanxiang image and video tool, which are set to power Apple Intelligence in China, the South China Morning Post reported this week.
