Multiple major AI platforms including Claude, ChatGPT with Codex, and Grok went down for a large number of users on September 3, 2026.

Multiple AI services report elevated errors. OpenAI confirmed elevated errors across ChatGPT and Codex. Anthropic reported elevated errors for multiple Claude models. xAI confirmed Grok is having a service issue.

The incident occurred while OpenAI is rumored to share news around the launch of its next big model, called Astra, as soon as today.

Downdetector showed spikes in reports for all three services. The outage appears linked to possible Cloudflare or Microsoft Azure issues according to 9to5Google. Cursor also faced an outage tied to the problems with Claude and Grok.

Services begin recovering after roughly 30 minutes. The disruption lasted approximately half an hour before access started returning for certain users, though results differed. OpenAI applied a fix. Most Claude models have recovered except Opus 4.8 and 5 while Grok remains affected.

Google Gemini shows no official outage. Some Downdetector reports appeared for Gemini but a MacTrast report tested it and found it unaffected.
