EA Confirms Leaked Iron Man Game Footage Is Real

EA has confirmed that leaked footage from its long-in-development Iron Man game by Motive Studio is authentic.

EA responds to the circulation of the footage. In a statement sent to Kotaku, EA directed the outlet to a new X account and post that reads: "Well, that didn't go as planned. But now you know, and we've got a lot more to show you. See you when we're ready." The email from EA to Kotaku confirms the account's legitimacy and the validity of the footage.

The leaked clip, which began circulating on ResetEra and elsewhere, runs just over two and a half minutes. It shows Iron Man taking off into the sky and zipping around a big city using jet boots, with combat that includes smashing enemies into the ground, chucking them, firing missiles and lasers, and attacking while hovering.

The footage reveals unfinished elements and familiar characters. Unfinished cutscenes and placeholder assets appear throughout, and the video is watermarked "AUG26 TEST." Up-close looks at Tony Stark's face are included, along with interactions suggesting player-customizable suit adjustments. Pepper Potts and James Rhodes appear, as do a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier and a bamboo forest setting.

The trailer emphasizes freedom and speed in an open-world city space and battlefields, with seamless shifts between aerial and on-foot combat. Tony Stark is seen in a room surrounded by Iron Man suits, interacting with a panel to reconfigure one around him. Cinematic storytelling is evident as he visits famed locations.

Flight mechanics draw comparisons to Anthem. The flight system appears to borrow ideas from the shuttered game Anthem, whose jet-boot travel was also well-regarded. The footage gives the impression of players traveling around the world, shooting missiles, using arm-mounted lasers, and throwing missiles at tanks.

EA Motive's Iron Man game was first revealed in 2022. At the time, it was one of several superhero games EA planned to collaborate on with Marvel. The studio has been quiet since amid multiple rounds of EA layoffs and project cancellations, including a Black Panther game and the shuttering of its creator, Cliffhanger Games.

No release date is provided in the leak. A placeholder "Release Window" phrase appears at the end of the trailer without specifying any timeframe. The video also lists the executive producer as "Ultron" and the world director as "The Hulk." EA has not shared further details on development status or timing.
