Rockstar says GTA 6 players can rob almost any location like stores or banks on the fly instead of in scripted missions. Nelson gave examples such as robbing a headphone shop or a cop impound lot during an IGN interview. The open system enables spontaneous actions as part of normal play.

Rockstar North head of development Rob Nelson said players in GTA 6 will be able to rob a wide range of locations on the fly rather than through scripted missions.

Nelson described open robbery options during IGN interview. He gave the example of entering a store that sells headphones and robbing it. Nelson noted that players can target shops, banks, or payday loan places as part of the core gameplay loop.

The interview showed Nelson demonstrating a robbery while discussing how the Leonida world reacts to player actions. He said the system allows spontaneous decisions instead of requiring pre-planned sequences.

Dynamic events can trigger unplanned robberies. Nelson recounted passing a cop impound lot during the demo, at which point the character Jason called out the opportunity to rob it. He stressed that targets can appear without warning and that players can act on them immediately.

Nelson said the feature works whether players control Jason and Lucia together or alone. He contrasted this approach with GTA 5, where larger heists were limited to major mission sequences.

World reactivity stays below Red Dead Redemption 2 levels. Nelson explained that GTA 6 will not feature the same degree of permanent town changes seen in Red Dead Redemption 2. The focus instead lies on immediate, player-driven interactions such as robberies that fit the moment.
