Correction (Oct 15): An earlier version said Tesla did not announce a production date while also saying production starts in 2028, and linked the deposit and 2028 claims to Tesla's configuration post. Tesla's configuration thread did not include those figures; the story now separates Tesla-posted specs from reveal announcements and drops the contradictory closing.

Tesla Roadster configurations: Performance, Thrust and Rocket · Tesla
Three configurations, from road car to flying car. Performance is road-ready and seats two, with active aerodynamics and a multi-mode suction system. Thrust is race-ready and seats two, adding rear-mounted cold-gas thrusters. Rocket is "air ready" and seats one, with perimeter-mounted thrusters for forward, upward and lateral rotational movement. "So...yes, it can fly," Tesla wrote. Source: Tesla ↗

Range tops 300 miles, and the Rocket reaches more than 230 mph. Tesla lists range at more than 300 miles and top speed at more than 230 mph for the Rocket. Its 0–60 mph times are under 1.6 seconds for Performance, under 0.9 seconds for Thrust and under 0.59 seconds for Rocket. Source: Tesla ↗
Musk announced that the Roadster will be the only manually driven car Tesla produces in the long term, with the rest of the lineup shifting to autonomy.

Reservations are open, with deposits set by configuration. Performance takes a $50,000 deposit and Thrust a $250,000 deposit, while Rocket is invite-only. Final prices have not been announced. Production is set to start in 2028. Tesla did not post the deposit amounts or the 2028 start in its configuration thread; those figures were announced at the reveal. Source: Tesla Roadster page ↗
Tesla Roadster cold-gas thruster system
Tesla Roadster cold-gas thruster system · Tesla

SpaceX thrusters get around the limits of tire grip. Tesla says the thruster system generates four to five times the force the tires can. Every usable void in the car holds carbon fiber overwrapped pressure vessels (COPVs) filled with compressed gas, and Tesla says making spacecraft thrusters work outside a vacuum took all-new hardware and controls. Track Mode reshapes the body for downforce. The Roadster physically transforms in Track Mode. Tesla claims the best passive downforce package of any road car, "approaching F1 levels," with wing actuation driven by the Optimus actuator system. Source: Tesla ↗

The design draws on the SR-71 and F-35. Tesla says its design language has evolved from the S3XY lineup through Cybertruck, Cybercab and Optimus, and that the new Roadster takes inspiration from the two military jets. Source: Tesla ↗

Tesla pitched it as the last great human-driven car. The original 2008 Roadster had "one job: prove that an electric car could be fast, sexy & worth wanting," Tesla said. It now calls the new car "the best of the last human-driven cars." Source: Tesla ↗
The demonstration vehicle operated in autonomous mode for safety reasons, with Musk warning that success was not guaranteed.
