BlackRock filed for the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protection ETF, or PBIT, which uses options and fixed-income strategies to cap gains and limit losses without holding bitcoin directly. The filing aims to give investors moderated bitcoin exposure. IBIT, BlackRock’s flagship bitcoin product, holds $65.7 billion and recorded its largest single-day inflow since October 2025 on the same day.

BlackRock has filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission to launch the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protection ETF, a bitcoin fund that would cap investors' gains in exchange for some protection against losses. The iShares Trust filed the registration on Monday, October 19. The fund would trade under the ticker PBIT.
IBIT remains BlackRock's flagship bitcoin product.
According to the prospectus, the fund seeks to provide upside exposure to BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) and similar bitcoin exposure up to an approximate limit, while seeking to provide a level of downside protection. It would not invest directly in bitcoin or bitcoin exchange-traded products.

Instead, the fund would buy bitcoin call options in three overlapping tranches and sell options to help offset their cost, while holding fixed-income investments such as US Treasury obligations. BlackRock warns in the filing that there is no assurance the strategy will work as intended and that investors may lose some or all of their money.
Bitcoin volatility has declined in recent cycles.
