Exodus Gets April 7 2027 Release Date

Archetype Entertainment has set Exodus for release on April 7, 2027 after revealing the date in a trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live. The game offers a new take on space-faring third-person action-RPG storytelling with time dilation, transhuman Celestials, and Awakened animal companions in a narrative that echoes the decade-long gap since the last Mass Effect title.

Exodus, the space-faring action RPG from Archetype Entertainment positioned as a spiritual successor to Mass Effect, has received its official release date. The developer announced April 7, 2027 during an emotional trailer at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live event on August 25, 2026.

Exodus fills the void left by Mass Effect's long absence. The game is set 40,000 years in the future where humans leave a dying Earth for a cluster of habitable star systems 40,000 light years away. Different arkships arrive on different timescales due to time dilation, with those arriving first spending 40 millennia developing genetic modifications and calling themselves Celestials.

Exodus fills the void left by Mass Effect's long absence.

Time dilation plays a critical role in the story. Celestials applied the technology to Earth animals including wolves, frogs, bears and octopuses, creating Awakened creatures with heightened consciousness and the ability to speak.

The Gamescom trailer focuses on the Awakened octopus Salt. Salt wears a mech suit built around a portable aquarium and joins protagonist Jun Aslan’s party. She storms into battle with the ferocity of a Krogan, serves as an expert sniper, and can deploy smokescreens to confuse enemies.

The trailer reveals Salt’s calm and intelligent personality through dialogue. It also shows her returning to a formerly aquatic world whose oceans have evaporated into sand, with implications for her loved ones who may have moved away or faced worse outcomes.

Celestials applied the technology to Earth animals including wolves, frogs, bears and octopuses, creating Awakened creatures with heightened consciousness and the ability to speak.

Five combat party members have been confirmed. Alongside Salt and Jun Aslan are Tom Vargas, a fellow Traveler who sacrifices personal life to travel relativistically; Elise Charroux, a human mercenary in a non-octopus mech suit; Phaedra Nath, a blind archaeologist who uses drones to see the world; and Suliman, a human about whom Archetype has shared only a name and screenshot.

The game builds on third-person action gameplay first revealed in March. Archetype Entertainment, which includes some makers of Mass Effect, developed Exodus under Wizards of the Coast.

Exodus launches on three platforms next April. It arrives April 7, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
