Apple has introduced refreshed child safety capabilities in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 that broaden parental oversight of content, contacts, and usage limits. The tools, shaped by input from experts including the American Academy of Pediatrics, include streamlined account setup, Ask to Browse approvals, wider Communication Safety measures, Time Allowances, and an updated Screen Time view.
iOS 27.1 will be released by October 23 to coincide with the iPhone Duo launch and bring Siri AI support for five new languages. The update is also expected to deliver two features that Apple delayed from the initial iOS 27 release.
Apple has released iOS 27. Siri AI begins in English beta with daily usage limits, and Apple Intelligence features are not initially available in the EU or China while Apple works through regulatory requirements. The update also brings performance gains, Liquid Glass refinements, iPhone Handoff, and U.S.-only Apple Cash bill splitting.
Apple rebuilt portions of iOS 27 so the new iPhone Duo foldable can take full advantage of its dual screens, repositioning controls, adapting every app layout, and adding Apple Pencil support on both displays while borrowing multitasking concepts from iPadOS.
Apple will release iOS 27 on September 14 featuring Siri AI as an English-only beta, with additional languages slated for October. The update includes a Liquid Glass opacity slider, refreshed app icons, extra large widgets, a smaller Lock Screen clock option, and separate volume controls for different audio categories.
