Microsoft introduced Magnetic Connect, a magnetic charging solution built into the Surface Laptop Ultra that attaches to its right-side USB-C port.

Magnetic Connect uses the existing USB-C port. The charging cable snaps magnetically into place while leaving the port fully functional for video output, data transfer, and standard USB-C connections. Microsoft described the feature during its Windows event on October 7, 2026.
The charging cable snaps magnetically into place while leaving the port fully functional for video output, data transfer, and standard USB-C connections.

Pavan Davuluri demonstrated the snap-in action. The Windows and Surface chief said users can “bring the connector close, and it snaps right into place.” The solution remains proprietary even though it occupies a standard USB-C port. Magnetic Connect replaces the Surface Connect magnetic charger Microsoft dropped from its smaller Surface devices last year.

Microsoft opted against shortening the name. The company refers to the charging solution as Magnetic Connect instead of an abbreviation such as Mag-C.
