The upgraded model follows the original Sonos Ace that reached the market in 2024. Early assessments highlighted strong audio performance and effective noise cancellation. Yet the overall category remains competitive, and the debut came soon after the company’s troubled app overhaul.

Bloomberg indicates the Ace Ultra will begin Sonos’ broader move into artificial intelligence. Details in the submission suggest support for voice commands that could connect to AI chatbots offered by outside developers. Last month Sonos CEO Tom Conrad identified AI as a priority area, referring to “conversational computing and predictive intelligence moving into the home.”

Priced at $449 on release, the first-generation Ace headphones were positioned as a direct alternative to Apple’s AirPods Max. Both use an over-ear form factor and share comparable capabilities. With no refreshed AirPods Max expected in the near term, the second-generation Sonos model will continue to face the existing Apple design.
