The App Store ecosystem facilitated $1.4 trillion in developer billings and sales in 2025, nearly tripling since 2019. Physical goods accounted for most of the total, with digital goods and ads each near $150 billion. Over 90 percent paid no commission to Apple. AI apps grew four times faster. This scale helps developers reach 850 million weekly users worldwide.

Economists at Analysis Group determined that the global App Store ecosystem enabled more than $1.4 trillion in developer billings and sales during 2025, Apple reported today. The figure represents nearly triple the volume recorded in 2019.

Most billings and sales incur no commission to Apple. Developers paid nothing to Apple on more than 90 percent of the billings and sales facilitated by the App Store ecosystem. The platform reportedly remains the safest and best place for users to discover and download apps.

The ecosystem has nearly tripled in size since 2019 while continuing to back developers who create fresh experiences, including those built around artificial intelligence.
For more than 90 percent of the billings and sales facilitated by the App Store ecosystem, developers did not pay any commission to Apple.
Physical goods drive majority of economic activity. Transactions tied to physical goods and services reached $1.1 trillion, propelled by ongoing expansion in grocery, food delivery and pickup, general retail, and travel categories.

Billings and sales for digital goods and services added up to $149 billion. In-app advertising generated another $151 billion. Games, enterprise software, and video streaming fueled the digital totals.

Consumer-facing AI apps post 4x billings growth. Titles featuring consumer-facing AI recorded 4x more growth in billings in 2025. More than 40 of the top 100 apps on the storefront included consumer-facing AI capabilities, and those titles posted stronger billing growth than the rest of the top 100.

Artificial intelligence now forms a growing element of app experiences in health and fitness, photo and video editing, and productivity categories. Both new and established apps continue to add richer features for users.
Apps featuring consumer-facing AI saw 4x more growth in billings in 2025.
Apple technologies enable private on-device AI features. Creators of every scale are adding smarter functions through Apple technologies such as the Foundation Models framework. Access to the on-device large language model that powers Apple Intelligence lets developers add intelligent capabilities that safeguard user privacy and function offline.

The AI inference involved comes at no cost. Coding tools that incorporate AI assistance, including Xcode, now open app design, construction, and release to a wider pool of makers. Agentic coding featured in Xcode 26 operates with increased independence to meet developer objectives.

Global scale reaches 850 million weekly users. The App Store averaged more than 850 million weekly users across 175 countries and regions. That reach lets developers expand operations and connect with fresh audiences worldwide through a single tap.
