Apple Declares iPhone X Obsolete

Apple has added the iPhone X along with the 2018 version of its 15-inch MacBook Pro to the company's list of obsolete products, an updated support document shows.

Apple updates its obsolete products list. The additions were made today, according to the revised document. Both devices now appear under the obsolete classification.

iPhone X launched with several firsts for the lineup. Debuting in November 2017, it became the first iPhone equipped with an OLED screen and Face ID. Without a Touch ID home button, the handset offered a near edge-to-edge display interrupted only by a notch housing the front camera and Face ID sensors. It also introduced a premium build that paired a glass rear panel with a stainless steel chassis.

Obsolete status ends Apple's hardware service. Products labeled obsolete lose eligibility for repairs or any other hardware service from Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers. The company applies the obsolete designation once seven years have passed since it ceased distributing the item.

iPhone X sales ended years ago. Although Apple halted sales of the iPhone X in September 2018, units continued to be sold by certain resellers well after that date. "iOS 16 was the final major software version compatible with the iPhone X," the support document notes.

The formal shift to obsolete status underscores the closure of official repair channels for the 2017 model, which launched alongside the iPhone 8. Apple uses distinct vintage and obsolete categories to determine ongoing service options for legacy devices.
