Apple Releases visionOS 27 With Siri AI and New Spatial Experiences

Apple today released visionOS 27, the latest version of the operating system that powers the Apple Vision Pro. The free software update is available for both headset models.

visionOS 27 requires specific hardware for Siri AI features. According to Apple's release notes, "A more capable and conversational version of Siri is rolling out to users" on Apple Vision Pro models with M2 and later. It reportedly draws on personal context understanding, app actions, onscreen awareness, and broad world knowledge.

The digital assistant can be positioned anywhere in a user's environment where it remains pinned in place. Owners can simply look at Siri and begin speaking without first saying "Hey Siri."

A dedicated Siri app syncs conversations across devices. Apple described a new standalone Siri app that makes it simple to resume prior discussions or begin fresh ones while privately syncing exchanges via iCloud across compatible Apple devices.

Visual Intelligence lets users query Siri about items in their physical surroundings or on-screen content simply by gazing at them. Write with Siri can generate fresh drafts, revise existing text, or deliver feedback almost anywhere typing occurs.

The update introduces more expressive voice options. Users can adjust expressivity and speaking pace on Apple Vision Pro with M5 using on-device models to better personalize the experience.

Apple Intelligence expands across multiple apps. Safari's Organize by Topic feature automatically sorts Bookmarks and Reading List items by subject. Image Playground relies on a fresh generative model to produce high-quality images in nearly any style, including photorealistic ones, and supports natural language edits.

Within the Home app, summarized activity notifications merge related alerts from various accessories into one. Video descriptions summarize HomeKit Secure Video clips for qualifying iCloud+ subscribers. Camera clip search enables locating precise moments by querying the Home app.

New spatial experiences add depth and immersion. Spatial scene panoramas convert standard panoramic images into scenes featuring depth and dimension. Personal Environments permits selecting a meaningful panorama and designating it as a custom Environment.

Curved windows improve comfortable viewing in apps such as Safari, Freeform, and Apple TV when using Multiview. Spatial Preview works with supported macOS applications to bring 3D models from Mac Virtual Display into the real-world space for true-scale inspection and editing that updates live.

Quick Look improvements allow on-the-spot visualization of 3D model alterations, such as swapping materials, viewing wireframes or UV maps, or inserting annotations. The new Thórsmörk Environment places users in Iceland with a calm daytime river scene or a nighttime version featuring the aurora. Freeform spatial groups support pulling several items from a board into open space for collective viewing and let users arrange boards inside collaborative folders. Safari can now display fully immersive 360° web environments on compatible sites.

To install, users open the Settings app, navigate to General, and select Software Update. The headset must be taken off during installation, after which a progress bar shows on the EyeSight display.
