MacRumors reports Apple is testing iOS 26.5.1 via visitor logs, with a minor bug-fix release likely by the end of next week. The update comes as focus shifts to iOS 26.6 beta testing in June and the iOS 27 unveiling at WWDC on June 8.

Apple Testing iOS 26.5.1 Update, Minor Release Expected Soon
Apple is testing a new iOS 26.5.1 software update for iPhones, according to visitor logs analyzed by MacRumors. The logs have proven reliable in the past for signaling upcoming versions ahead of official announcements. Engineers at the company appear to have increased activity around the build, pointing to an imminent release.

The update is expected to be a minor point release focused on bug fixes and security improvements rather than new features. MacRumors reports that iOS 26.5.1 will likely become available by the end of next week following the May 22 report date. Such incremental updates typically address issues reported after the main 26.5 version shipped earlier in May.

Testing for iOS 26.6 has also ramped up in the same logs. A first beta of that follow-up update could arrive sometime in June. Last year, Apple released the initial beta of iOS 18.6 to developers on Monday, June 16, just three days after the conclusion of WWDC 2025. The pattern suggests a similar timeline may apply this year.

Apple continues to direct primary development resources toward iOS 27. The next major version is scheduled for unveiling during the WWDC 2026 keynote on Monday, June 8, at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. Minor releases like 26.5.1 and the forthcoming 26.6 serve as bridges for users while the company prepares the larger annual update expected in September. Previous minor updates, such as iOS 26.4.2 released on April 22, followed a comparable cadence of quick-turnaround fixes after the prior version.

The visitor-log methodology relies on anonymous data from MacRumors readers who have enabled diagnostics sharing with Apple. This approach has accurately predicted multiple past releases without relying on official statements or developer beta seeding. No official confirmation or release notes have been issued by Apple at this stage.
