Bungie Begins Layoffs After Destiny 2's Final Update

Bungie has started laying off staff following Destiny 2's final content drop this month. The studio announced the reductions on social media as part of a reorganization to operate at its current scale of roughly 800 employees while continuing Marathon support through 2026.

Bungie has started laying off staff in the wake of Destiny 2's concluding content drop earlier this month. The developer shared news of the reduction in force via social media while describing an internal reorganization, though it has not revealed the exact number of affected employees.
Even as it maintains support for the extraction shooter Marathon, which will receive fresh content at least through the end of 2026, Bungie determined it could not sustain operations at its former scale.
"We know this decision has a profound impact on the people affected, their families, friends, and teammates," the studio said in its statement. "While these changes are necessary to best position the studio now and for the future, that does not lessen the difficulty of this moment or the impact it has on those affected."

The company noted that its upcoming initiatives remain in the early incubation stage. Even as it maintains support for the extraction shooter Marathon, which will receive fresh content at least through the end of 2026, Bungie determined it could not sustain operations at its former scale. Industry estimates place the current workforce at approximately 800 people, already reduced by several hundred from pandemic-era levels that once reached around 1,300.
While these changes are necessary to best position the studio now and for the future, that does not lessen the difficulty of this moment or the impact it has on those affected.

Sony sells region-locked PS5 at a loss to expand its Japanese audience

Sony Interactive Entertainment is selling its region-locked PS5 at a loss as a strategic investment to grow PlayStation users in Japan and curb imports driven by the weak yen. The subsidized ¥55,000 model, now 40 percent cheaper than the unrestricted version, reflects targeted spending on a key market long dominated by Nintendo.

GameStop CEO Forgoes $35B Bonus to Pursue eBay Takeover

GameStop has withdrawn Ryan Cohen's potential $35 billion performance bonus so the CEO can concentrate on acquiring eBay. The decision follows eBay's swift rejection of a $55 billion bid in May and precedes the planned release of additional strategic materials this week.

GTA 6 to use PS5 DualSense features, confirmed PS5 Pro enhanced

Sony and Rockstar Games have detailed several PS5 hardware features that Grand Theft Auto 6 will use exclusively, while confirming the title is PS5 Pro Enhanced without revealing specifics. The announcement doubles as a marketing drive to convert lingering PS4 owners to PlayStation 5 ahead of the game's release.
