Nintendo Reports Switch 2 Quarterly Sales Drop But Maintains Strong Lead Over Predecessors

Nintendo released its financial figures for the period spanning April 1 to June 30, revealing that the Switch 2 remains the company's fastest-selling hardware even as quarterly sales have fallen sharply.

Switch 2 quarterly sales fell to 3.82 million units. The firm moved 3.82 million Switch 2 consoles in those three months. That marks a notable decline from the 5.82 million units sold during the comparable quarter last year, which coincided with the system's June 2025 launch.

The slowdown comes after an initial wave of excitement that helped the device set multiple records for the company.

Lifetime sales now total 23.68 million in 13 months. Total Switch 2 sales have climbed to 23.68 million units after 13 months on sale. By contrast, the original Switch had moved 17.79 million units in the same span following its debut, while the Wii surpassed 20 million.

Nintendo is projecting sales of another 12.68 million Switch 2 consoles across the following three quarters. Reaching that mark would deliver 16.5 million units for the current fiscal year and lifetime sales of 36.35 million if targets are met.

Operating profit rose 150.5 percent on software gains and tariff refunds. The company's operating profit climbed 150.5 percent compared with the previous year. Gains in software revenue together with $300 million in US tariff refunds helped drive the increase; those refunds reportedly will not reach consumers.

Software sales climbed with several new titles performing strongly. Mario Kart World has now moved 15.39 million units overall. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream sold 7.94 million copies within its first three months on the market, Kirby Air Riders has reached 1.9 million, and the Switch 2 version of Super Mario Party Jamboree stands at 1.15 million sold.

Nintendo has not released specific figures for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book or Star Fox but indicated both titles are tracking in line with internal forecasts. Older Switch games continued to sell steadily, including an additional 450,000 copies of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that lifted its lifetime total to 71.53 million. Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate each added another 380,000 units.

Digital sales share rose to 61.5 percent. The portion of software sold digitally increased to 61.5 percent, a rise of approximately 2 percentage points from the year before. A number of major Switch 2 releases are still slated for 2026, such as Fire Emblem: Fortunes Weave on September 17, Switch Sports Resort on October 22, and a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake scheduled before the end of the year.
