Binance founder Changpeng Zhao said the exchange's recent hack leaves a funding gap of about $2 billion, and pointed to Binance's SpaceX (SPCX) shares as one source to help cover it, in posts on X on Oct. 30.

CZ's "rough math." Zhao wrote that the hack was more than $6 billion, about $3 billion has been frozen, and Binance's SAFU fund holds more than $1 billion. "Gap is about $2b, we have $1.x billion in SPCX alone," he wrote, calling the remaining gap "still painful, but" manageable.

SpaceX stake. Zhao said Binance's SPCX shares, which came from its $500 million investment in Elon Musk's Twitter takeover, are worth more than a billion dollars. In a later post he said he had not said anything about selling the shares.

Binance says revenue can cover it. Binance co-CEO Yi He posted that the company's revenue for the year is sufficient to cover the losses, so it does not yet need to sell the SpaceX shares. Binance said on X that the verified total frozen amount is around $3 billion, and Zhao has said user funds are safe.
