Ford says it has produced more than 5,000 large aluminum unicastings at its Shelbyville Technical Center for the Fathom, its midsize electric truck. Ford chief engineer Vladimir Bogachuk wrote on Ford's From the Road blog Wednesday that the castings support process testing and prototype assembly at Louisville Assembly Plant ahead of the truck's 2027 launch.

CEO Jim Farley posted "5,000 unicastings and counting!" on X at 9:14 AM AST. Each Fathom will use a pair of the castings, front and rear, which Ford says replace 146 structural parts with two.

Ford has said Fathom prototype builds with production-qualified parts are on track for the first quarter of 2027, with customer vehicles to follow later that year. The Fathom starts at $28,350 MSRP, plus $1,595 destination.
