Kojima confirms Bill Skarsgård leads Physint, updates OD

Hideo Kojima appeared at Xbox's Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast on September 17, 2026 to provide the first update on his two in-development games with Xbox since Sony stepped away from Physint last week. Both OD and Physint are now published by Xbox. Kojima focused on the strengthened partnership and shared details on each title's progress.

Kojima highlights the new Xbox publishing partnership. He opened by stating he wanted to focus on Kojima Productions' partnership with Xbox and share a glimpse of what lies ahead for players worldwide. Kojima spent time in Richmond, California earlier this year with Xbox boss Asha Sharma, where the pair discussed the future of games and digital entertainment and found a deep understanding of shared goals.

OD development continues on schedule after strike delays. Kojima addressed OD-Knock, the mysterious horror game he insists will be unlike anything seen before and that many people will hate. Production is proceeding on schedule despite performance capture and ADR recording pauses caused by last year's SAG-AFTRA strike. Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer and the team delivered intense and outstanding performances that Kojima cannot wait for players to see. He reiterated that OD is a new type of game that will test the thresholds of fear, with more information to be shared down the line.

Bill Skarsgård joins Physint as lead actor. Kojima revealed that Bill Skarsgård, known for playing Pennywise, will play the lead role in Physint. Skarsgård joins previously confirmed actors Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe. Kojima shared new key art for the game featuring the costume and character that Fraser and Skarsgård will play, taken from a picture he shot himself at a recent photoshoot.

Physint remains years from completion with more updates planned. The game is still many years from completion. Kojima promises more news soon. During Kojima Productions' 10th anniversary livestream he noted that Physint is "just the start," a statement that could hint at franchise potential though nothing is likely soon. In 2025 Kojima said the game would not be out for another five or six years, positioning it as a potential marquee title for the unrevealed Xbox Project Helix.

The updates mark the first public comments from Kojima since the publishing shift was announced. Sony's decision to step away from the previously PlayStation-exclusive action espionage game reportedly stemmed from concerns over budget, potential profitability and exclusivity, according to a new report. Xbox has now taken over publishing duties for the in-development title.
