Meta shows VR glasses with 100g weight and pocket puck

Meta announced the Meta VR Glasses at its Connect 2026 event, introducing a glasses-style VR device instead of a traditional headset.

The glasses weigh 100 grams and rest on the ears like regular eyewear. The form factor uses blacked-out lenses and distributes components between the head-worn unit and a separate computing puck kept in a pocket. This approach aims to reduce both physical weight and the sense of commitment compared with head-strapped devices.

The glasses come in small and large sizes for different face widths. Two front-facing cameras provide color passthrough so users can see the surrounding environment.

A wired puck holds the processor, memory, storage, and battery. According to Meta, the puck contains a Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, 128GB of storage, 12GB of RAM, and a battery rated for up to three hours of media playback. Users can continue operating the glasses while the puck charges.

The display is a 5K MicroOLED panel called the Infinite Display. Meta states each eye receives 2412 x 2288 pixels at 37 pixels per degree with refresh rates up to 120Hz. Eye-tracking cameras and hand-gesture recognition handle navigation without controllers.

Meta demonstrated the device for entertainment and productivity tasks. Demos included a James Cameron-directed Billie Eilish concert film, an NBA Finals VR180 broadcast, and an Avengers: Endgame sequence created with Disney and Industrial Light & Magic. The lighter weight and quick on-off capability were highlighted as advantages for short sessions.

The glasses rely on eye movements to highlight interface elements and finger pinches or fist gestures to select and scroll.
