Bethesda Softworks has set an August 11 release date for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement arrived with a self-referential trailer featuring the game’s infamous Adoring Fan NPC pestering the player.

The remaster launched last year on other platforms. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered reached 9 million players within three months of its release on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. It updates the 2006 RPG with Unreal Engine 5 graphics and quality-of-life improvements.
Critics received the remaster well, crediting its enduring appeal despite stilted dialogue.

All versions include Horse Armor. The physical Deluxe Edition ships with a cartridge containing the full base game and expansions.

Oblivion helped broaden the Elder Scrolls series. While Skyrim sold 60 million copies and reached wider audiences, Oblivion proved essential for expanding the series’ appeal and making inroads with console players. Bethesda’s parent company Microsoft faces challenges, with Xbox preparing a reported “reset” that could involve studio closures or sales and significant layoffs across divisions including ZeniMax Media.
Digital Foundry previously called the PC version one of the worst-running games it had tested.
Bethesda has worked on The Elder Scrolls 6 since announcing it in 2018, with full production beginning in 2023 after Starfield shipped. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has called for the next Elder Scrolls and Fallout games to release as soon as possible.

Xbox reportedly mulls shuttering at least five studios and axing Blade

Microsoft is preparing Xbox layoffs next week that could close at least five studios, including the team behind Marvel’s Blade, and scrap the troubled project as part of cost reductions. The changes belong to a larger reset under new CEO Asha Sharma while the division contends with slipped schedules, overspending, and an unsustainable operation.

Atari Agrees to Acquire Thunderful Group for $5.2M

Atari has agreed to buy approximately 82% of Thunderful Group for roughly $5.2 million, gaining control of the SteamWorld developer and several other studios and publishers. The deal, announced in the July 29, 2025 press release, comes as Thunderful reports declining revenue, weaker-than-expected sales, multiple restructurings, and an upcoming CEO departure. Shareholders are scheduled to vote at an EGM on or about August 28, 2025.

Undead Labs Reportedly Facing Possible Shutdown

Overnight reports indicate Microsoft is seeking a buyer for Undead Labs, with its zombie survival title at risk of cancellation if none is found. The move is part of broader layoffs threatening hundreds of jobs across Xbox gaming studios including Double Fine, Compulsion, and Ninja Theory.
