Samsung reveals tougher Flex Titanium foldable screen

Samsung has introduced Flex Titanium, a thinner and mechanically stiffer foldable display that reduces visible creases and power consumption. The panel, built on experience from seven prior generations, will launch in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and may supply Apple’s expected folding iPhone.

Samsung Display introduces the Flex Titanium OLED panel for foldables. A titanium-alloy layer provides twenty times the stiffness of polymers at one-third hair thickness, improving strength, flexibility, and reducing creases while lowering power use. The screen debuts in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and may reach future Apple foldables.

Samsung Display has introduced an advanced flexible OLED panel for upcoming foldable devices that is reportedly thinner, tougher, and less susceptible to visible folds. The Flex Titanium technology will first appear in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

Samsung combines titanium components for improved strength and flexibility. The new panel relies on a titanium-alloy layer placed beneath the OLED to deliver structural reinforcement. According to the company this film offers “20 times greater mechanical stiffness” than polymer alternatives while measuring roughly one-third the thickness of a typical human hair.

Positioned below that layer, a separate titanium plate reportedly creates a firmer connection to the rest of the module. Samsung claims the setup delivers better rigidity in the open position yet still permits “the flexibility needed to accommodate repeated folding.”
Even the latest Galaxy Z Fold 7 and comparable models continue to exhibit noticeable creasing along the hinge line, an imperfection that affects every commercially available folding handset.

New display reduces power use and crease visibility. In addition the panel is said to draw less electricity while delivering “ultra-vivid” picture quality. “Together, these advancements enable a strong foldable display that maximizes content immersion on a seamless screen and reduces crease visibility — all while keeping it slim,” the company stated in its announcement.

Samsung describes the Flex Titanium panel as the result of lessons accumulated across seven generations of foldable phones. The firm added that “by balancing strength, flexibility and structural stability, Samsung continues to set the bar for foldable displays.”

Current foldables still show visible creases. Even the latest Galaxy Z Fold 7 and comparable models continue to exhibit noticeable creasing along the hinge line, an imperfection that affects every commercially available folding handset.
Because Samsung Display has long supplied components to Apple, the upgraded screen could also feature in the anticipated folding iPhone slated for release later this year.

Earlier this year Samsung Display demonstrated a creaseless OLED prototype. At that time the firm called the concept “an R&D concept, with no fixed timeline or plan for commercialization.”

Technology could reach Apple’s rumored foldable. Because Samsung Display has long supplied components to Apple, the upgraded screen could also feature in the anticipated folding iPhone slated for release later this year.
Additional specifications are scheduled to be disclosed during Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22.

Report: OnePlus to Pull Out of US and Europe

Bloomberg reports that OnePlus will exit the U.S. and European smartphone markets as part of restructuring at owner Oppo, with the move possibly starting as soon as this week. The brand's earlier popularity has faded while Chinese suppliers face mounting pressure from memory chip costs and declining shipments in key regions.

New York Governor Enacts One-Year Moratorium on High-Power Data Centers

Governor Kathy Hochul signed a one-year moratorium Tuesday blocking new hyperscaler data centers that need 50 megawatts or more while agencies draft environmental rules and community-benefit templates. The pause addresses rising residential power prices, which have climbed nearly 68 percent since 2019, and the roughly 30 grid-connection requests filed between 2020 and 2025.

Microsoft Halts July 2026 Windows 11 Update Rollout on Select Dell Machines

Microsoft has suspended the July 2026 Windows 11 Patch Tuesday update on certain Dell models after it triggered unexpected shutdowns, sluggish performance, higher heat and fast battery drain. The flaw traces to an Intel driver clashing with a new USB-C Connection Manager interface; exact affected machines remain undisclosed while a fix is prepared.
