The company highlighted specific uses such as the Mockingbird tool while stressing that human talent remains central and that AI only augments rather than replaces creators.

At its studios, Sony is automating repetitive workflows, boosting software engineering productivity, and accelerating quality assurance, 3D modeling, and animation with new AI-powered tools. One example is the Mockingbird tool, which animates 3D facial models using performance capture data and completes work that previously took hours in a fraction of a second. The tool has been used by studios including Naughty Dog and Santa Monica Studio, with results appearing in titles such as Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.
Sony clarifies that it is not replacing human performers but optimizing how it processes data from live captures. The company also discloses a partnership with Bandai Namco to explore how generative AI and other technologies can help realize a creator’s vision in video production. The firms report major gains in speed and productivity per person, along with opportunities for AI to deliver sophisticated and realistic outputs that were previously infeasible due to time constraints.
Sony notes limitations of generative AI models, including a lack of consistency and controllability. The comments formed part of a broader earnings update that also included a 46 percent year-over-year drop in PS5 sales.
