TL;DRAI · 60 sec read

Sony raises PlayStation 5 prices in East Asian countries including South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam, following hikes in the US, UK, Europe, and Japan. South Korea sees up to 43% jumps, with PS5 Pro at $882. Changes reflect global economic conditions, RAM shortages, rising component prices, and Sony's high-end console dominance.

Sony announces price increases for the PlayStation 5 in several East Asian countries, following hikes last month in the U.S., UK, Europe and Japan. The platform holder cites global economic conditions for the changes.

In South Korea, the disc drive PS5 rises to ₩948,000 ($644), the PS5 Digital Edition to ₩858,000 ($583) and the PS5 Pro to ₩1,298,000 ($882), according to Inven Global. The PlayStation Portal reaches ₩378,000 ($250). These mark a 43-percent jump from the original launch price of the all-digital PS5 in South Korea.

The PlayStation Blog details further hikes effective May 1: Singapore's PS5 at SGD 849, PS5 Digital Edition at SGD 764 and PS5 Pro at SGD 1,167; Malaysia's PS5 at MYR 2,799, Digital Edition at MYR 2,499 and Pro at MYR 3,999; Thailand's PS5 at THB 20,990, Digital Edition at THB 18,790 and Pro at THB 30,990; Indonesia's PS5 at IDR 11,399,000 and Digital Edition at IDR 9,999,000; Philippines' PS5 at PHP 40,032; and Vietnam's PS5 at VND 16,900,000.
The increases reflect an ongoing RAM shortage, rising gaming component prices and Sony's dominance in high-end console gaming.
