Tesla 2026.8.6 Adds Cabin Camera Driver Age Tracking
TL;DRAI · 60 sec read

Tesla's Software Update 2026.8.6 enables the cabin camera to track driver age through facial analysis, revealed by hacker greentheonly. The camera processes images onboard for privacy, sharing data with Tesla only if owners enable it during safety-critical events. It extends attentiveness and drowsiness monitoring to enhance safety, potentially filtering children or elderly drivers.

Tesla hacker greentheonly revealed that Software Update 2026.8.6 enables the in-cabin camera to track the driver's age through facial analysis. The camera, positioned above the rearview mirror, previously monitored driver attentiveness. This new capability processes images entirely onboard the vehicle for privacy, sharing data with Tesla only if owners enable it during safety-critical events.

Greentheonly noted the age checking in a post on April 10, 2026, questioning if it might filter out children or elderly drivers. The feature is not yet user-facing. Tesla's cabin camera already detects inattentiveness during Autopilot or FSD use via eye gaze, head position, and steering inputs, issuing alerts before disengaging assistance.

It also monitors for drowsiness above roughly 40 mph after at least 10 minutes of manual driving, analyzing facial cues like yawns and blinks alongside driving patterns. Tesla states this enhances safety without relying on facial recognition for identity.
