Amazon and MGM to Lead Future James Bond Games

Amazon will lead future James Bond video games through MGM and Amazon Game Studios after acquiring the IP. The company had no role in the upcoming 007: First Light by IO Interactive, whose deal predated the purchase. This shift supports tighter links between games and Prime Video series based on owned IPs like Tomb Raider.

Amazon has clarified its plans for the James Bond video game franchise. Future projects will be led by MGM and Amazon Game Studios after the company acquired the IP.

Amazon had no role in developing the latest James Bond title. Jeff Gattis, GM of Amazon Gaming, told Polygon that the company did not make 007: First Light. The development deal with IO Interactive was completed before Amazon acquired the James Bond IP.
Amazon had no role in developing the latest James Bond title.
Amazon now owns the IP and therefore holds a stake in the game. The title was reviewed very positively.

Future James Bond games shift to internal leadership. Gattis stated that any future projects will be done by MGM and theoretically by Amazon Game Studios. The comments suggest Amazon will take a much more hands-on approach to the next James Bond video game experience.

The IP acquisition happened after the First Light deal with IO Interactive was already done.

Amazon is expanding its owned game IPs across entertainment formats. The company is working on plenty of Prime Video series based around video games. Projects include God of War, Tomb Raider and more.

Cross-medium releases form a core part of the strategy. Gattis said Amazon sees a real opportunity to create IP that extends or expands upon TV shows and movies. A Tomb Raider TV show on Prime Video will go alongside the games.

There are a lot of things in the works on new games that will relate to Prime Video IP. This approach aims to fully capitalize on the IPs Amazon owns.
