Fact-check summary

IGN and Bethesda's official 40th anniversary video confirm the Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel reveal today, matching the article's core details on the video and title drop.

2 caveats
  • ▲Article attributes the story to Tom Henderson/Insider Gaming while the rumor originated with The Verge's Tom Warren; body contains a clear 'Elder Scrolls IV' typo instead of VI.
  • ▲'Elder Scrolls IV: Sentinel is shown at the end' — video and all reports confirm VI, not IV.

Bethesda Game Studios revealed that The Elder Scrolls VI is titled Sentinel at the end of its 40th anniversary video, posted November 3 on YouTube and X. The studio said development continues and it will be some time before it shares more. No release date, platforms or gameplay were announced.

Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed that the next mainline Elder Scrolls game is called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.
The title came at the end of an anniversary video. The reveal closes "Celebrating 40 Years of Bethesda Game Studios," posted to the Bethesda Softworks YouTube channel on November 3. Todd Howard introduces it, saying the anniversary is the perfect time to say what The Elder Scrolls VI is actually called, before a short teaser of sand and an Elder Scroll and the new logo.

The teaser points to Hammerfell. Sentinel is a kingdom in Hammerfell, the desert province home to the Redguards. The video ends on a quote attributed to Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell: "The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate."
