Blizzard Releases New Warcraft 3 Campaign After 23 Years

Blizzard has released Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom, the first new RTS campaign for the Warcraft series since its Frozen Throne expansion in 2003. The two-part campaign is available today in Warcraft 3: Reforged as part of the free 3.0 update announced during the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony on September 12.

The campaign explores the origins of the Forsaken and the Undercity. It begins with a prologue covering the story of Arthas and the last days of Lordaeron after it fell. The main portion focuses on the Undercity, the capital of the undead Forsaken Kingdom, featuring characters including Sylvanas, Putress, and the Scarlet Crusade.

The content spans 30 hours and includes a new graphics mode along with the addition of a new unit called the Forsaken Paladin. It also boosts the unit selection limit from 12 to 24.

The release arrives alongside a free 3.0 update for Reforged. The update is available to all players and includes World Editor updates. Warcraft 3 Reforged, the 2020 remaster of the 2002 RTS, was not popular at launch but the new content and update could help rehabilitate the project.

Forsaken Kingdom is the first new Warcraft RTS campaign in over two decades. It joins other surprise expansions for old games released in 2026. The campaign can be purchased standalone and went live on September 12 immediately following the BlizzCon 2026 announcements.

Blizzard's Holly Longdale made the announcement at the in-person event, the first BlizzCon back since 2023. The surprise drop marks 23 years since the last official Warcraft 3 campaign addition.
