GM Launches Energy Pass for Unified EV Charging
TL;DRAI · 60 sec read

GM launches Energy Pass in its MyChevrolet, MyCadillac, and MyGMC apps. The unified interface connects drivers to Tesla Superchargers, IONNA, Electrify America, and soon ChargePoint and EVgo, covering nearly 70 percent of US DC fast chargers. One enrollment enables station access, session control, and plug-and-charge payments. This reduces app friction for GM EV owners.

GM has introduced Energy Pass, a unified charging interface integrated into the MyChevrolet, MyCadillac, and MyGMC apps.

Energy Pass simplifies public EV charging access. The new feature eliminates the need for multiple apps, accounts, and payment methods that have complicated public charging. Drivers enroll once to find stations, start and stop sessions, view live status, and access charging history and receipts in one place.
The new feature eliminates the need for multiple apps, accounts, and payment methods that have complicated public charging.

At launch, Energy Pass connects to Tesla Superchargers, IONNA chargers, and Electrify America chargers. ChargePoint and EVgo will join soon. These networks represent nearly 70% of all DC fast chargers in the United States, plus Level 2 options.

Plug&Charge capability rolls out across networks. After one-time enrollment, compatible stations enable drivers to plug in and charge without further interaction as payment occurs automatically. This is already live at IONNA Rechargeries and EVgo stations. GM plans to extend it to ChargePoint this summer.

Vehicles with native NACS ports will gain Plug&Charge at Tesla Superchargers via an over-the-air update later this year. The 2026 Cadillac OPTIQ and 2027 Chevrolet Bolt already include native NACS ports. Every new 2027 model year EV from Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac is expected to launch with them.
By integrating Tesla Supercharger access into GM's own apps and adopting native NACS ports, the automaker acknowledges the value of a single reliable network combined with software-defined simplicity.

Announcement aligns with GM's NACS transition. The Energy Pass launch coincides with GM's acceleration toward the North American Charging Standard. This mirrors the industry shift since Tesla opened its network and established NACS as the de facto standard. The move addresses friction for drivers of GM's expanding EV lineup, including the Chevy Equinox EV, Chevy Blazer EV, Chevy Bolt, Cadillac models, and electric GMC trucks and SUVs.

Energy Pass validates broader industry trends. By integrating Tesla Supercharger access into GM's own apps and adopting native NACS ports, the automaker acknowledges the value of a single reliable network combined with software-defined simplicity. The announcement was made at a GM event in San Francisco on June 9.

Qcells Starts Solar Cell Production at Largest US Factory

Qcells has started solar cell production at its Cartersville, Georgia factory, which will become the largest such facility in US history with full vertical integration from ingot to module. The site helps customers qualify for domestic content tax credits while adding 8.6 GW of total US capacity by end of Q3 2026.

GM Activates V2G for 250,000 Existing EVs

GM activated vehicle-to-grid capability for more than 250,000 existing bidirectional EVs with no new hardware required. The move positions parked vehicles as a major distributed energy resource to support grid stability amid rising demand.

BYD Opens First Flash Charging Station in Germany

BYD opened its first Flash Charging station in Germany that can recharge compatible EVs from 10% to 70% in five minutes at up to 1,500 kW. The Chinese manufacturer plans 3,000 such stations across Europe by the end of 2026 while expanding its Denza premium brand.
