Apple has confirmed iOS 27 will be released widely on Monday, September 14. The update becomes available around 10 a.m. Pacific Time via the Settings app under General → Software Update.

iOS 27 compatibility covers iPhone 11 and newer models. Siri AI and other Apple Intelligence features require an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. The software was announced during Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo event last week.

Users can launch Siri AI through a dedicated app or by pressing and holding the side button. Apple said the feature starts limited to English and will carry daily usage limits. Expanded access is planned for a fee later, and Siri AI will not launch initially in the EU due to a regulatory battle with the European Commission.

Additional Apple Intelligence tools expand photo and automation capabilities. The Photos app gains new Extend and Reframe options. Image Playground can now generate photorealistic images, while the Shortcuts app lets users create new shortcuts by describing them in plain language. HomeKit Secure Video cameras receive generated video descriptions.

The new version functions as a ChatGPT-like assistant capable of answering a wide range of queries.

Liquid Glass interface receives further refinements. Apple says the design now offers more uniform refraction and improved contrast. App icons appear sharper and more detailed. A new slider allows users to adjust how clear or tinted the Liquid Glass effect looks.

System performance sees measurable gains across key tasks. App launches run up to 30% faster. New photos in the Photos app library load up to 70% faster. AirDrop transfers complete up to 80% faster.

New iPhone Handoff and U.S.-only bill splitting features debut. iPhone Handoff lets users switch between two iPhones sharing the same phone number, provided carrier support exists. T-Mobile in the U.S. and Deutsche Telekom in Germany will be first to offer it, with T-Mobile charging $5 per month. In the U.S., Apple Cash bill splitting works in Wallet, Messages, or via a new Siri mode in the Camera app that scans receipts to calculate shares of tax and tip.
