Xbox will keep its multiplayer and live service games on multiple platforms but make some single-player titles exclusive to its consoles. Decisions happen case by case with platforms revealed at release dates so the company can attract hardware buyers and honor prior multiplatform commitments.

Xbox will keep its multiplayer and live service games on multiple platforms even as it shifts some single-player titles to console exclusives.

Xbox reaffirms multiplatform strategy for key titles. Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty told GamerTag Radio that big multiplayer games and live-service games will continue to be multiplatform. This stance comes after the company announced two new console exclusives during its Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday.

The exclusives, Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution, are not timed exclusives. There are no plans to release them on PlayStation.
Future decisions to be made case-by-case. Booty said all future games will be either Xbox console exclusive or multiplatform depending on the game. The company will announce platforms when it reveals a release date so players know the choice.

Booty added that Xbox wants people to have a reason to buy an Xbox and be an Xbox fan. At the same time it wants to reward longtime players, noting that exclusives are important.

Previously announced titles will honor commitments. All games already confirmed for a PS5 release will still come to Sony's platform. This includes the upcoming Halo: Campaign Evolved, Fable and the PS5 port of Forza Horizon 6.

Booty explained that if Xbox has promised something to players it will honour that promise. He referenced a comment from Asha Sharma about making the right decision, not the fast decision, and said the company will keep thinking about this going forward.

Context follows recent executive comments on exclusives. The announcement of new Xbox console exclusives follows Xbox CEO Asha Sharma stating that the Xbox platform must have exclusive content and services. Sharma wrote on social media after the showcase that the company wants people to choose Xbox because of great games and experiences made for Xbox.
