The title was previously DRAGON QUEST XII: The Flames of Fate. Development has restarted under a new structure with a reshuffled team after hitting "a lot of hurdles" in the past.

A completely refreshed logo was revealed for the game. The showcase included in-development gameplay footage. Messages from game designer Yuji Horii and executive producer Yosuke Saito were released alongside the update.
