OpenAI says GPT-Rosalind agents flagged a cholesterol hypothesis for Perry syndrome gene DCTN1

OpenAI says thousands of GPT-Rosalind agents analyzed a whole-brain CRISPR atlas of millions of mouse brain cells in 32 minutes and raised a new, untested hypothesis about the Perry syndrome gene DCTN1. Human experts called the lead novel and worth following up, but it has not been tested in the lab.

OpenAI, PerturbAI and Scripps Research used thousands of AI agents powered by GPT-Rosalind to analyze a whole-brain CRISPR atlas of mouse brain cells. OpenAI says the agents worked through data from millions of cells in 32 minutes.

A DCTN1 lead. Disrupting DCTN1, a gene whose mutations cause Perry syndrome according to OpenAI, increased the activity of genes that make cholesterol. GPT-Rosalind suggested cholesterol may not be reaching where neurons need it, and raised the question of whether restoring cholesterol transport could protect neurons from degeneration.

A hypothesis, not a result. The idea has not been tested in the lab. The only check so far is that human experts judged it novel, consequential and worth following up on.

Many agents versus one. Experts preferred the multi-agent reports 75% of the time, and those reports cited more than 700 references, compared with 11 for a single agent.

The Circuitry is a passion project I've always wanted to build, and I love the work behind it.

Running it costs real money. APIs, hosting, time. To keep improving the site and growing this into something useful for everyone, those costs have to be covered.

Any contribution is appreciated. If not, no pressure. Thanks for reading.
