A federal judge ordered Reddit moderator James Williams to pay Nintendo $4.5 million and shut down sites distributing pirated Switch games. The default judgment follows Nintendo’s 2024 lawsuit over Williams’ role moderating a piracy community.
US District Judge Lauren King wrote that Nintendo demonstrated Williams promoted shops offering pirated files and circumvention software while knowing the activity violated copyright laws.
The judgment requires Williams to immediately disable access to the online stores allegedly housing libraries of pirated Switch games.
