Toys for Bob is developing Spyro: A Realm Beyond, the first brand new game in the Spyro the Dragon series in 18 years.

Spyro: A Realm Beyond arrives on Xbox Game Pass in spring 2027.

The title was revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase. It is currently in development at Toys for Bob and will launch in Spring 2027. The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.

Toys for Bob previously developed the Spyro Reignited Trilogy while part of Activision. The studio founded in 1989 was acquired by Activision in 2005. It split from the publisher in 2024 to become independent but reached an agreement with Xbox Game Studios for its first project as an independent studio.

When it was part of Activision, Toys for Bob created the Skylanders series, which featured Spyro throughout. After Skylanders, the studio remade the original three Spyro the Dragon games in the 2018 Reignited Trilogy. Not counting Skylanders games or the remakes, there have been eight mainline Spyro console games. The last was The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon in 2008.

Microsoft owns the Spyro IP following its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The partnership with Toys for Bob for the unannounced title was reported in 2024. The studio's website highlights its work on both Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon.

The announcement ends years of speculation around a new Spyro title.

Rumors of a new Spyro game at Toys for Bob circulated for years. A former developer's LinkedIn profile listing work on "Spyro" from roughly 2022 to 2024 added fuel to those reports. The studio's shift to a purple logo and statements about crafting adventures for timeless characters also prompted discussion among fans.

No further details on gameplay, platforms beyond Xbox and Game Pass, or specific features were disclosed in the announcement. The studio has not issued additional comments beyond the showcase reveal.
