Rockstar confirms GTA 6 is single-player only

Rockstar Games has confirmed Grand Theft Auto 6 will be a single-player experience only at its November 19 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The statement leaves the long-term future of the lucrative GTA Online mode uncertain even as Rockstar continues updating it with new content like the July Kortz Center Heist.

Rockstar confirms Grand Theft Auto 6 launches November 19 as a single-player experience only. Updated PlayStation and Xbox store pages state this explicitly before pre-orders open June 25, ending speculation about a multiplayer mode at launch while GTA Online continues with separate updates for years.

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch as a single-player experience when it arrives on November 19. The clarification came in updated game descriptions on PlayStation.com and Xbox.com as the company detailed pre-order incentives ahead of sales opening on June 25.

Rockstar details pre-order bonuses for GTA 6. Pre-ordering GTA 6 grants a free month of GTA Plus, Rockstar's subscription service for Grand Theft Auto Online benefits. The offer must be redeemed within 180 days of purchase and is unavailable to child accounts with age-restricted content. A console pop-up will notify users when the subscription is ready, directing them to the Store, profile icon, and “Offers & credits” section for redemption. One redemption is allowed per platform account.
Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.

The subscription also provides access to the GTA Plus Games Library, featuring classic Rockstar titles including Grand Theft Auto 5, Red Dead Redemption, and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

GTA 6 explicitly listed as single-player. Rockstar's official description states: "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience." This language appears directly after the pre-order bonus details on the storefront pages. The confirmation addresses long-standing speculation about whether the new title would include a multiplayer component at launch.

GTA Online's future remains in question. GTA Online has served as a major revenue source for Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive through regular content updates. The mode receives a new major update, The Kortz Center Heist, in July. Rockstar continues to support GTA Online without signs of slowing down, and it is expected to run alongside GTA 6 for years.

When Grand Theft Auto 5 launched in September 2013 as a single-player title, Rockstar developed GTA Online in parallel and released the multiplayer component two weeks later on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The company has updated GTA Online continuously since, releasing it as a standalone download in 2021.
Some GTA 6 features could reach Online later. Rockstar is encouraging players to upgrade to the Enhanced versions of GTA 5 on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, with that update offered for free. The company and Take-Two have avoided disrupting GTA Online's success. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X on Nov. 19, with potential updates to GTA Online and a PC version possibly arriving afterward.
